“Sow righteousness for yourselves,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the Lord,
until he comes
and showers his righteousness on you”
– Hosea 10:12
The walk of a disciple of Jesus is marked by the work of seed, soil, season, and the Son.
It is begun by the scattering of good-news-seeds early in our spiritual walks, and by wisdom-seeds of freedom as we continue on the journey.
It’s characterized by a constant need to turn and loosen the soil of our hearts as it opens to these and many more truth seeds.
The walk is inescapably held in the growth-container of season… where time and timing, waiting and moving are all in unison obedient to their Maker. It is a seasoning by season.
And finally the walk of the disciple is marked by Jesus, the One whom the disciple follows… following the rhythms of His lifestyle, of the consistent gathering and growing, seeking and hearing, seeing and serving… and the name of the One who offers life in the light of His presence.
Seed, Soil, Season and the Son.
May you find yourself here. May you examine and come back to these places. When things get weird, or lost or broken or scary or hindered, may you and I be able to walk back over to the garden of our hearts, the gardens of our minds and our very selves and ask the basic questions…
What kind of seed is being planted, what is the state of the soil, am I trusting and trying to understand the seasons… and am I really basking in the light and rhythms of the Son?
